Henri Godet Enameled Bronze "Femme Fleur" Sculpture

$17,500

This "Femme Fleur" sculpture by Henri Godet depicts the patinated bronze head and neck of a young woman with flowing hair and serene expression growing out of an enameled red and yellow lily flower, the petals of which also double as a charming crown for the young lady. The French Art Nouveau sculpture rests on a red marble base, with the flower perched on a green enameled leaf decorated with a gilt bronze flower.

The "Femme Fleur" is a common, and usually quite beautifully attended to, trope in the Art Nouveau era. Art Nouveau masters such as Godet aimed to create human personifications of nature, considered the highest form of beauty at the time, and created stunning female characters to embody such living creatures as flowers or more abstract subject matter, like seasons.
