$9,500

This antique gold ring is set with an oval demantoid garnet framed by old mine-cut diamonds and flanked by scrolling shoulders. With its open gallery, and the bright diamonds surrounding it, this brilliant garnet beautifully displays its extraordinary capacity to refract and disperse light into its spectral colors, creating a burst of fiery green sparkle on the finger.

Demantoid garnets—so-called for their adamantine brilliance—were first discovered in Russia’s Ural mountains in 1868. Typically petite but vividly colored, demantoids became a signature gem of the house of Fabergé, and a favorite stone for the pavé setting of diminutive Edwardian animal and insect brooches.
